DETZNER NAMED SECRETARY OF STATE

Ken Detzner was named by Gov. Rick Scott as the new secretary of state, replacing Kurt Browning, who is stepping down. Detzner has filled in before as the secretary of state during the agency's transition from an independent agency under an elected secretary to an agency that answers to the governor. Detzner has also served as chief of staff in the agency when Jim Smith was secretary from 2002-2003. He also worked for six years as director of legislative and policy affairs in the attorney general's office.

ASH WILLIAMS REAFFIRMED AS HEAD OF SBA

State Board of Administration executive director Ash Williams was unanimously re-affirmed on Wednesday and will continue to lead the state's financial management team that among other duties directs the state's $119.8 billion Florida Retirement System. The FRS, like other portfolios, suffered through a dismal last six months of 2011. The investment portfolio fell by in value by $8.4 billion from its June 30 balance. Williams was appointed to the position in 2008.
